TED Talk William Kamkwamba's Windmill

I enjoyed this video for a number of reasons. First I was rather impressed how William managed to take a rather crude design drawn in a book and managed to harness electricity in his home. Thats quite a feat for a fifteen year old. Most adults in our country probably couldn't of created a windmill using only items scattered around the house.

The video did seem to portray him as uneducated and perhaps even a little confused. I can't emagine how he must of felt being on that stage. Its important to remember just how intellegent and creative he is.

I read one of the other classmates blogs on this topic as well and they didn't mention that the boy was only 15 yrs. old. Thats awesome that he took an idea and rolled with it. At 15 if I saw something in a book that I wanted to make it was either some 15 min food prep. or some small craft idea but never a windmill to power things in my home.

Hi I was there at the conference.

William was 19 in June when the video was recorded. He might have seemed uneducated, but he's actually a very good student.

Remember he had been out of school for five years due to lack of money before returning just before the conference. He's actually quite brilliant, and now he's enrolled in private school where he is thriving.

He seemed confused because it was hard to understand Chris as he had not been speaking English for a long time.
